Roman Gabriel Game-Worn, Hula Bowl College Jersey Signed & Inscribed "18 Hula Bowl Jan. 1962" Players Letter
Departing North Carolina State University with virtually every passing record, former quarterback Roman Gabriel became the first-ever Wolfpack player to have his number retired. Following his senior season in 1962, Gabriel performed in the Hula Bowl, where he wore and signed this "East" team jersey. Tailored from red dureen, the long-sleeved pullover garment features cream-colored shoulder panels on which three light-blue stars appear. In white tackle twill, Gabriel's familiar number "18" is sewn to the front and back. In black marker, Gabriel's autograph and inscription of "18" shows "9-10" strength on both the front and back "1." On the back "8," the former signal caller has inscribed "Hula Bowl - Jan 1962." On the vented left front tail, a "Spanjian" label denotes size "48." The jersey exhibits moderate wear, with tiny holes about the shoulders. (The '62 Hula Bowl, incidentally, ended in a 7-7- deadlock.)
