1983 Jimmy Connors U.S. Open Match-Used Racquet with Dual-Signed Cover and Multiple Photo-Matches
Significant Wilson T-2000 racquet used by one of the greatest players of all-time to win the 1983 U.S. Open, and gifted to the founder of an urban tennis camp and facility following the victory. At a time when most other tennis pros played with wooden rackets, Jimmy Connors pioneered the Wilson T2000 -- and he played with this chrome tubular steel racket until 1984, when most other pros had shifted to new racket technologies, materials, and designs. As he ascended the pro tennis world, this was his trademark weapon and exclusive tool-of-the-trade. It features evidence of tremendous use and wear, including all identifiers and handle tape specific to Connors, with many many photo-matches available to confirm use in the '83 Open. It is also personally signed by the Hall of Famer on both sides of the racquet cover, enthusiastically inscribed, "Enjoy The Racquet!, Best of Luck" on one side, and "To Paul, Best of Luck," on the other -- "Paul" being our consignor and aformentioned tennis camp founder.
In his time, there was no bigger star or recognizable personality in the sporting universe. Jimmy Connors won it all and did it his way. A lot. A former Number One Player in the World, he won eight Grand Slam singles championships: five U.S. Opens, two Wimbledons, and one Australian Open -- and his seminal matches with fellow legends Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe set the tennis world ablaze and defined the era.
This is a rare opportunity to acquire a truly significant piece of sports history from one of tennis' most important players and ambassadors. It includes letter of provenance from original owner detailing its history and acquisition.
