Thurmond averaged over 20 points per game 1967-68 through 1971-72, and played in seven NBA All-Star Games.
On Oct. 18, 1974 against Atlanta, in his debut with Chicago, he recorded 22 pts, 14 reb, 13 ast and 12 blocks to become the first player in NBA history to record a quadruple-double. In Cleveland, Thurmond came off the bench for the injured Jim Chones to lead Cleveland to the Eastern Conference Finals before the Cavaliers lost to the star-studded Boston Celtics in 1976. In 1996 he was named one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History. His jersey number, 42, has been retired by the Warriors and Cavaliers.
