Large Turn-of-the-Century "BASE BALL!" Barnstorming Poster, Dated 1900!
Extremely rare in this premium condition, and incredibly well-preserved, this large century-old paper broadside documents turn-of-the-century baseball in Webster, New York. Dated 1900, and measuring a full 20" x 28", this antique was never posted and was properly stored for 111 years and offered in near mint condition.
Bold block headline screams, "BASE BALL!" and serves to announce upcoming games between the Webster nine and visiting barnstormers and town teams at the legendary Nine Mile Point ballfields. Webster, located near Rochester, is named after orator and statesman Daniel Webster, and was a hotbed of baseball activity in the earliest days of the sport, producing many 19th century players of note, including Hall of Famers. Visitor and date info are blank -- these relics would be used to promote Saturday afternoon games throughout the summer of 1900. Features classic Victorian block lettering and union labeling along lower border. Worthy of fine framing and prominent display, this is a tremendous representation of the early national pastime.
*Note: what appears to be toning along bottom border is actually shadowing. There is no toning or staining whatsoever to this rare piece
