"The Natural" (1984) Screen-Worn 1939 Cincinnati Reds Flannel Jersey with 'Western Costume' Stamping
Rare screen-worn jersey utilized in the production of Robert Redford's classic, "The Natural". Genuine wardrobe from the production is extremely scarce as the pieces were working Western Costume wardrobe, with only a few pieces retained in original form for possible continuity purposes - the rest were stripped down and re-purposed for other productions, inventory, etc. Actors and extras in the production were obligated to signed strict agreements and waivers regarding garments and equipment.
Offered is a Cincinnati Reds road flannel used in original filming and representing Frenchy Bordagaray, a.k.a. Number "26" on the 1939 Reds roster. This is a beautiful jersey featuring heavy aged flannel shell, with "C-I-N-C-I-N-N-A-T-I" sewn across front in heavy felt block letters, and "26" sewn on reverse, and colorful "1939 Baseball Centennial" patch sewn on left sleeve. Wardrober's "[size] 44" is markered in collar. Shows game use from actual action during the filming of this seminal baseball film, and provenance and origination are confirmed by correct "Western Costume" stamped in tail. We've never seen another Cincinnati jersey offered.
This is an outstanding display and representation of a genuine classic, and by many accounts, the greatest sports film of all time. A letter confirming source is included.
