A truly exquisite and historically important garment on offer:
Arthur Ashe's Personally Owned Game-Used & Personalized Wilson USA Davis Cup Team Jacket from the 1969 Davis Cup Final v. Romania. Ashe and Team USA faced Ille Nastase and Romania in the Finale of the 1969 Davis Cup. The United States Team featured Ashe, Stan Smith & Bob Lutz. Ashe defeated Ille Nastase in the first match, and finished things off by defeating Ion Tiriac in the final match to claim the 1969 Davis Cup Title. The finale took place at the Harold Clark Courts in Cleveland, OH from September 19-21, 1969.
Provenance: After the completion of the final match, a local ball boy working the tournament noticed a jacket left hanging on the court net. The ball boy grabbed the jacket and noticed "Ashe" was stitched into the jacket, so he proceeded to the player's locker room to give the jacket back to Mr. Ashe. When presented with his jacket, Mr. Ashe told the ball boy he could keep the jacket. The jacket has remained in that original ball boy's possession since.
Upon close inspection, you will come to find the following signs of use throughout this very, very historically important garment: the jacket does show it's age. both zippers have locked into place and are not functioning. there is brown staining throughout from age/storage. this could likely be cleaned but to preserve the historic nature of the garment, that is left up to the descretion of the next owner. some minor pulls & snags do exist, but overall, the garment remains in very good solid condition. The USA stitching to chest remains in superb condition. The Wilson identifier stitched into the neck remains vivid in color. The "Ashe" embroidery in the neckilne remains in vivid condition. Please note: in some of the provided photographs of Ashe wearing this jacket, he has folded over the cuffs of the sleeves while playing. Please refer to the provided photo of the jacket showing how the cuffs appear when folded. The stripes on the cuff do not show through on the reverse side (photo match).
