The Crimson red numerals "55" were screened on the front and show cracking /wear from age and use. His jersey numbers on the back were also screened on with his name present on the nameplate - "DE. THOMAS". The "DE." present in order to differentiate from any others with the common last name. The front tail tag is a Russell Athletic [size] 50 and a 100% NYLON (fabric) flag. The side panels feature great aeration holes. Overall a solid well worn jersey with plenty of repairs most noticeable in the shoulder pad areas.
He was awarded theButkus Award in 1988 after a season which saw him set an NCAA record 27 sacks along with finishing 10th in Heisman Trophy balloting. He currently holds the single season NCAA FBS sack record with 27 and what was the career sack record with 52 career sacks. He was also selected as a unanimous All-American at the conclusion of the 1988 season, a season which culminated in the Crimson Tide's thrilling 29-28 victory over Army in the 1988 Sun Bowl.
A great photo style match of the jersey can be found on one of Thomas' first rookie cards which is included for reference. It is the 1989 Pro Set (#498) card.
